Artist living and working in Bristol, UK.
Graduated from Falmouth University with a BA(hons) Fine Art in 2018. Developing drawings and paintings from a personal archive of imagery, with chairs and plants as the central motifs. She builds surreal, layered images that prompt thought about presence, absence and her own personal relationships. This comes from a fascination with the emotional connection we instinctively have with chairs, and the role they play in representing us within art. Her works are portraits in many ways, partly through the inclusion of significant objects and text. Increasingly she has been exploring her role as a female artist, both historically and in the world today. Many of the objects from her compositions stem from these preconceptions of gender and her own femininity. Emily is a strong believer in art being accessible, so likes to create work in the form of art zines to reach a wider and different audience that more traditional art mediums. Along with painting, drawing and zines, day to day Emily does sign writing and mural commissions across Bristol. |
